Interview Show Notes

03:24 Dr. Anderson’s travel health strategies: Eat well and stick to your schedule. Exercise before you leave or when you get there. Enforcea reasonable amount of sleep. He also schedules a recovery day.

05:03 Breast cancer recurrence dropped in 30% of breast cancer survivors studied who had a 13 hour fast.

05:21 The biochemistry changesafter 3 to 4 months of intermittent fasting of 13 to 14 hours, even in non-cancer patients. Blood sugar control gets better. Inflammatory markers go down. These can be cancer triggers.

07:29 Dr. Anderson found profound improvements in labs in four months of intermittent fasting. There had been little change in labs with 9 months of dietary changes and increased exercise.

09:02 Hospitals are embracing intermittent fasting around chemotherapy. This increases quality of life and decreases chemotherapy side effects.

11:15 People who respond best to natural treatment are those who tend to the basics and take care of their overall health.

13:42 Chemotherapy has evolved in the past 5 to 10 years to be more targeted. Old style cytotoxic chemos indiscriminately killed cells. They were targeted at rapidly dividing cells. However, we have rapidly dividing good cells too. These treatments are still used.

15:08 Targeted chemotherapies impact either cytokines, cell triggers or receptors. Some targeted therapies work well, others have deadly side effects or cancer coming back stronger. We only understand a portion of the biology that we are manipulating.

16:10 The trophoblastic theory is the cancer stem cell theory. Once the main cancer tumor has been destroyed, the cancer stem cells step back and wait. They come back as the same or a variation of the cancer. They are emboldened and more resilient.

18:27 The more we quiet inflammation and regulate blood sugar, the less likely it is that cancer stem cells will activate.

19:19 Secondary preventionincludes and goes beyond diet and lifestyle. Other issues must be addressed: immune issues, chronic infections in the lymphatic system, toxin burdens, and hormonal aberrations.

21:20 Our environment makes us more amenable to cancer.Metabolism influence of cancer has to do with the health, functionality and clean-up of your mitochondria.

23:15 A baby born today is more toxic than its parents will be and more toxic than its grandparents could ever be. We cannot avoid everything, so we need to be more careful.

24:36 Aberrant thoughtsaffect the immune system.Dr. Anderson’s clinic has mental health professionals that work with patients with chronic illness and cancer, specifically.

28:03 Some cancer cells stay with the blueprint and the rest are soldier cancer cells that we see.A stem cell is a primordial cell that has multiple potentials, important in a developing embryo. As we age, our stem cells help with healing and repair. It is thought that cancer stem cells are there to protect cancer. The stem cells, are generally not affected by the treatment that destroys the soldiers.

29:53 Cancer stem cells have the ability to recruit and program normal cells. The harder we hit the cancer soldier stem cells with chemo radiation, the more the stem cells back away from the area and wait.

31:06 The strategy is to keep cancer stem cells happy and quiet. Everything we do to kill cancer, makes the cancer stem cells stronger. Post cancer treatment health, self-care, diet and lifestyle are key.

33:44 A very low carb or keto dietwas a common link in cancer patients that did the best with their therapies, longer remissions or no recurrence. It may work better in some cancers over others.

35:24 Cancer patients who go very low carb/keto are instructed to eat vegetables. People in cultures around the world eat a lot of vegetables, but theirs have fewer convertible carbohydrates, more flavonoids and more fiber.

37:13 Research has found that integrative cancer therapies extended lifespan, compared to only standard therapy. Patients who did not change their diet fared the worst.

41:29 Work with at least two practitioners to get many options and varied care.Take one or two people with you to see the oncologist. Ask about your specific case and your chances of success with standard therapies.

46:47 Integrative therapies work with what your body is doing right now. No two people respond the same way to therapies.

49:07 By the time we can see a cancer tumor with imaging, it has been growing slowly for 5 to 10 years or longer.

51:00 Prescreening tests are getting better.Next generation testing, which still has some gaps, looks for things like circulating cancer cells.

52:06 Some traditional testing of non-specific inflammatory markers showmetabolic shifts to an inflammatory milieu or a milieu that shows Warburg Effect. These markers include alkaline phosphatase, lactate dehydrogenase and CRP. If these markers are all trending up for no apparent reason like an injury or infection, we need to determine what is causing it. Some other traditional test results are elevated in specific tumor types.

56:09 If markers can be shifted with diet/lifestyle changes, it wasn’t cancer. A single data point from tumor marker, a non-specific marker or any other test, must be paired with how your body is working.

58:38 Thermography, when done correctly, can detect and track cancer.

01:03:28 Dr. Anderson tests all cancer survivors for chronic infection, including the family of HHV, mycoplasma, c pneumoniae and more. Many of them like to live in your lymphatic system and outside of your liver.

01:05:21 People who eat mushrooms regularly have lower rates of certain cancers. Many mushrooms have potent anticancer properties. Have them in your diet. Some cancers that do not respond to anything else, will respond to mushrooms.

01:10:45 High proteinintake and low quality protein sources can bring you out of cancer fighting modeand out of ketosis. You need protein and aminos, but you don’t need too much. Poor quality protein, and food in general, can bring toxins into your body.

01:14:18 The ideal morning routine for preventing cancer starts with a quiet mind and centering. Exercise in the morning for the brain and body. Hydrate.

01:18:27 Dr. Anderson would choosecurcumin as his desert island supplement. Curcumin levels out cytokines and triggering molecules. It sends you away from cancer triggering. Fifteen stage 4 cancer patients who had responded to no other treatment were in a trial at Dr. Anderson’s clinic. Five of these patients had regression of metastases in their bones. Others had positive results as well.

01:22:33 Dr. Anderson’s elevator pitch: The most important thing to keep people from developing cancer to is to get them to do the things that bring their metabolism back to its intended balance. Don’t give cancer cells any opening.
