Thank you for all of the work that you do to bring recent health studies to those of us who follow you.
I retired from the City of Seattle in March of 2022 at the age of 62. Unfortunately, I was coerced into getting injected with the mRNA virus before I could jump ship. I call it a virus because it is an obligate intracellular parasite that infects our cells to replicate the spike protein, just as a virus must do. It is NOT a vaccine. In order to try eliminating the spike proteins from my body, I fasted to 72 hours after each injection. I hope that worked.
Anyway, after retiring, I purchased a college biology text from Goodwill. I have been devouring that text and listening to podcasts, watching videos of presentations from organizations like Low Carb Down Under, and other smart folks like you. I love learning.
My in-laws treat me with distain since I have transformed my body with discipline, diet and exercise. When I began, about a year ago, and as my body was changing (losing weight, gaining muscle), my wife was amazed and very supportive. When I was 40, I weighed around 150 lbs and was able to bench press 310 (1 max rep). In the following 20 or so years, I have snapped a long head biceps tendon in my right arm, the short head biceps tendon in my left (reconnected shortly thereafter), and broken my left distal clavicle while mountain biking. Needless to say, my shoulders are pretty beat up.
My heavy resistance workouts stopped after snapping the long head biceps 20 years ago. My re-entry into resistance training has been using elastic bands and my body weight. I frequently receive comments from friends and relatives who have not seen my in a year. I also get unsolicited comments from strangers. They usually comment that my “pipes” are huge and notice my overall fitness. When I tell them that I am 62 (63 in October) they ask how I stay in such great shape at my age and if I would be their trainer! 🙂
All of this is to say, that I do not agree with some of your past guests who have said that high reps/low weight are a waste of time. I have used my own body as the experimental pallet, and have solid proof that, just like the low carb diet, low weight/high reps do work and work quite well.
