About Dr. Pratt
Shelese has treated have been Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Cerebral Palsy, PVL, Global Development Delay, Angelman Syndrome, learning difficulties (ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia), sensory processing disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, digestive system disorders/disease, endocrine disorders, autoimmune disease, and mood disorders.
In addition to classical naturopathic medical protocols, I also employ Crossinology's Brain Integration Technique (BIT) in my practice. I believe that each individual is unique and I tailor a treatment plan specific to each patient.
I treat the majority of my patients (national and international), at my main clinic in Louisville, Colorado and an office in Fairfield, Connecticut. I run several lecture series annually. I welcome the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with groups nationwide. If you would like me to speak to your group, contact my office to make arrangements.

Can Social Isolation Change Your Genes?
Show Notes
02:25 Brain Integration Assessment: There are specific acupuncture points that are used to assess different neurological functions. Dr. Pratt checks to see how well the corpus callosum moves. Are people using both sides of their brain at the same time? Is there confusion within the brain? Perhaps they are sending information to the wrong centers or is it inefficient. Do they get caught up in an emotional reaction? Can they understand that things are in the past and not today? Dr. Pratt also assesses visual and auditory processing and assesses how well they move over the mid-line, as well as coordinate and balance themselves. Testing reading comprehension and other neurological tests reflect how well the brain is functioning.
09:46 Childhood Trauma: If there is an interruption in neural development in the first 7 years of life, the neural net may not be completed. During stress, the frontal lobe loses blood flow.
11:00 The Frontal Cortex: Planning, organizing, executive functioning, prioritization and our ability to react in a socially appropriate way is done in the frontal cortex. It may not truly be behavior problems that children have. It may be that they are not able to fully integrate all of the areas of their brains.
17:34 Breathing and Meditation: Mediation and mindfulness practices are important in this highly distractible world. Dr. Pratt has her patients set their phone alarms. When the alarm sounds, they are to drink water and take 10 deep mindful breathes to a count of 6 in, hold to a count of 6 and exhale to a count of 6 and hold to a count of 6. This brings in more oxygen and activates the parasympathetic.
19:13 What is Brain Integration Technique? It is an integration of western neurology with the different neurological pathways associated with acupressure points in the body and different modes that we hold from the Indian chakra system.
19:33 Testing Neurological Acupressure Points: Dr. Pratt uses applied kinesiology tests these points to determine how well are these neurological pathways are working and the percentage of access to these areas. Fifteen different areas are tested in the initial assessment. Standard brain integration therapy uses 84 different formats.
20:15 How is Brain Integration Therapy Done? During therapy, different neurovascular and acupressure points on the head are held. It brings blood flow to specific points as of means to achieve balance, as well as opening neurological pathways. Dr. Pratt holds these points until she feels an energetic pulse.
22:17 Executive Case Story: Dr. Pratt sees a lot of executives. One of her executive patients went through brain integration and found that he no longer went to sleep when he was reading. More importantly, he is now able to retain what he reads, project into the future, hear the details and organize them. It helped him to see things before his peers and make faster decisions. Processing became more efficient.
25:14 Genetics vs Epigenetics: Dr. Pratt’s genetics are worse than most of her patients…even her autistic kids. It is a testament to the power of epigenetics and the way she has treated her genes that she is so healthy. She has SNPs, but drinks plenty of water, exercises regularly, uses mindfulness techniques, avoids what is pro-inflammatory for her body, and takes care of her digestive system. She developed severe asthma in her early 20s. This drove her into naturopathic medicine. SNPs predispose us, but lifestyle should be a mainstay of clinical practice. She fine tunes with supplements. We shouldn’t count on them to drive our biochemistry.
32:00 Minimize Environmental Toxins: Chemicals themselves can overwhelm our detoxification systems and many have a great number of heavy metals. Both play havoc with your genetics.
33:40 Detoxing to Promote Health: Partake in heat induced sweating and infrared sauna, Eat clean food. Upregulate liver detoxification, by supporting phase 1 and phase 2. Exercise is paramount in detoxification and draining your lymphatics. Dry skin brush before bed.
34:26 How to Use Castor Oil Packs for Detoxification: Castor oil packs help the liver detox and helps the immune system tonify and lymphatic system move. It also helps the GI system to heal. Take an organic wool or cotton cloth. Saturate it in castor oil, just shy of dripping. Place it on your abdomen, anywhere from the breasts to the pubic bone. Cover your sides as well. Covering the liver, on your right side is important. Wrap in an old towel. It is messy and it stains. Place a hot water bottle over it. Lay flat with your feet up and meditate or do deep breathing for about 45 minutes. Castor oil packs help with fibrocystic breast disease and lymphatic movement within the breast.
36:32 Castor Oil’s Mechanism of Action: Castor oil is a lymph mover. It also works as an anti-inflammatory. It is absorbed slowly through the skin over time. Castor oil can be applied to injuries to bring down inflammation.
28:10 Coffee Enemas: If done correctly and sparingly, they are very effective.
38:50 Dr. Pratt’s Morning Routine: Dr. Pratt’s first mindset of the day is “What is going to happen today that is going to be beautiful.” She tries to sit for 20 minutes and do breath work and a Vedic mantra. She would also like to start her day with time in the sauna, but she is the mother of 5 children. She drinks a protein filled green smoothie before heading to work.
41:19 Dr. Pratt’s Single Favorite Exercise: Dr. Pratt does Vinyasa yoga. It incorporates breath and stretching. She loves to hike. The antioxidants from dirt are better than any pill you can take.
43:55 Dr. Pratt’s Favorite Desert Island Nutrient: Eleuthero is American ginseng. The adaptogenic quality serves and balances a number of organ systems.
45:06 Dr. Pratt’s Elevator Pitch: We need to make policies that truly protect us, rather than big companies. The toxicity and quality of our water, air and food has been our biggest setback for our health and brain health. In general, the simple things that you can do for yourself are the biggest things. Drink enough water. Eat clean homemade food. Exercise and make it fun.
